Michael Brinkman, Psy.D.
Dr. Brinkman provides neuropsychological evaluations for adolescents and adults with neurological injuries or diseases, medical conditions that affect cognition, attention-deficit disorder, learning disability, and emotional problems that can impact work or social functioning. Dr. Brinkman has particular interests in assessment and differential diagnosis of neurodegenerative conditions and assessment of individuals who present with comorbid psychiatric diagnoses such as depression and bipolar disorder.
Dr. Brinkman provides comprehensive assessments of cognitive, academic, and emotional functioning and provides detailed feedback sessions with his clients, as well as families and caregivers when appropriate. During feedback meetings, he provides clients with detailed information about their cognitive strengths and weaknesses, any emotional issues that may be affecting functioning, and diagnostic impressions. For geriatric clients, Dr. Brinkman also discusses issues related to capacity, decision making, safety, and appropriate levels of care with clients and caregivers.
Dr. Brinkman received his doctorate in clinical psychology with a specialization in neuropsychology from The Virginia Consortium Program in Clinical Psychology, a university-based program sponsored jointly by The College of William and Mary, Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk State University, and Old Dominion University. He completed an internship in clinical psychology at the Ann Arbor VA Healthcare System, with specialty training in geriatric psychology/neuropsychology and health psychology. Dr. Brinkman completed his two-year fellowship training in clinical neuropsychology at the University of Michigan, a renowned neuropsychology training site. In addition to his clinical work, he also conducted research focused on the neuropsychology of depression and related illnesses.
