ADHD Coaching & Cogmed in Boston & Newton, MA
In addition to stimulant medications for treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), there are also a number of non-medication treatments and other interventions that can reduce the symptoms of ADHD, including
cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), ADHD coaching and Cogmed Working Memory Training. These can be utiized as the primary approach to managing ADHD symptoms or can be used adjunctively with
medication.
What are CBT & ADHD Coaching?
CBT is a type of counseling and is typically conducted during weekly meetings with a psychologist. ADHD coaching is similar but can also include telephone contacts and/or more frequent contact if needed. CBT and ADHD coaching can help clients learn to better manage symptoms of ADHD and reduce their negative impact on daily functioning. By working with an ADHD specialist, clients can learn to develop behaviors and strategies that will maximize their strenghts and minimize symptoms and their consequences.
What is Cogmed?
Cogmed Working Memory Training is an evidence-based program that helps adolescents and adults sustainably improve attention by training their working memory. This computerized training program is based on strong scientific research and is delivered under the supervision of a qualified Cogmed Coach. At CPA, our Cogmed Coaches are doctoral level psychologists who specialize in ADHD, including neuropsychologists. This program can be completed in the convenience of your own home.
The complete program includes:
- An initial interview
- An in-person start-up session
- Five weeks of training with weekly coach calls
- A wrap-up meeting with coach
- A six-month follow-up interview
- Access to the Cogmed Training Web
