Life Coaching

Life coaching services help individuals develop new goals and directions for their lives and to help them create a plan for reaching those goals. The aim of a life coach is to help clients develop and utilize their many strengths and personal resources to achieve greater success in their personal lives, careers or other areas that are important to them. Some clients want to advance at work while others want to be better parents. Whatever goals you have for your life, your coach can help you bring them into focus and execute a plan to help you get there.

Many people wonder how life coaching and psychotherapy are different. In many ways they are similar and in some important ways they also are different. Psychotherapy usually focuses on specific areas of emotional or medical concerns that a client may be having, with the aim of alleviating the problem or helping the client learn to cope with an issue more productively and comfortably. In contrast, the focus of life coaching typically is not on resolving a problem but instead on maximizing and developing strengths to reach life goals.

Career Assessment & Coaching

Our individual career services include career and personality assessment and follow-up counseling sessions.  In the context of a structured process, our psychologists work collaboratively with clients to help them find more satisfaction in their current career or find career paths that may be more satisfying. Assessment of personality and career interests is a key feature of career counseling.  At CPA, we utilize a number of assessment tools, including many commonly used tests such as the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, California Psychological Inventory, Strong Interest Inventory and the Work/Life Values Checklist.  These tests provide detailed information about a client’s:

  • Personality style
  • Relationship style
  • Social functioning
  • Strengths and weaknesses
  • Interests
  • Personal values

Our psychologists also help clients evaluate their personal values, lifestyle preferences, work-life balance concerns, financial considerations and overall life goals. For a career to be satisfying and meaningful, it must match one’s values and beliefs, life circumstances and life goals.
