Psych Testing & Psychological Assessment Services in Boston & Newton, MA
"Psych" testing is the same thing as sychological testing or psychological assessment and is simply an abbreviated name. Psych testing and psychological testing refer to the use of an array of measures designed to explore an individual's cognitive, personality, and emotional functioning. The general goal of psychological testing is to gather information about current emotional functioning, personality style, and areas of concern that may be targets for treatment.
At Commonwealth Psychology Associates (CPA), we conduct psychological testing and assessment , which is a comprehensive process of identifying and measuring personality and emotional themes in an individual’s life. Our clinicians also offer a briefer therapeutic assessment, which looks at emotional themes in the context of what areas might be best addressed in psychotherapy.
At CPA, psychological testing and therapeutic assessment are frequently implemented as a "first step" in the therapeutic process and can highlight areas of concern or interest that may warrant further conversation. Additionally, psychological testing can be helpful during later stages of treatment, particularly if new goals or strategies are needed. Psychological testing and assessment can provide important information about an individual's:
- Personality structure
- Relationship styles
- Life themes
- Cognitive or belief frameworks (or schema)
- Treatment needs
- Response to treatment
Following the evaluation, your clinician will meet with you to discuss the results and, together, you and your clinician will discuss how some of the results can be incorporated into your therapeutic work together. Clients often find that participating in a brief evaluation process can deepen the therapeutic experience and accelerate the treatment process. Additionally, your therapist will also discuss whether additional testing may be helpful for you, such as Neuropsychological testing or Career Assessment.
