Boston Psychological Testing & Neuropsychological Testing Assessment Services
Psychological testing or psychological assessment refers to the use of an array of measures designed to explore an individual's cognitive, personality, and emotional functioning. The general goal of psychological testing is to gather information about current emotional functioning, personality style, and areas of concern that may be targets for treatment.
Neuropsychological Testing and evaluation refers to assessment of cognitive functioning rather than personality functioning. We also offer Boston Neuropsychological Testing Services. To learn more about these services, visit our

At Commonwealth Psychology Associates (CPA), we conduct psychological assessment , which is a comprehensive process of investigating personality and emotional themes in an individual’s life. Our clinicians also offer a briefer assessment, known as therapeutic assessment, which looks at emotional themes in the context of what areas might be best addressed in psychotherapy. Psychological assessment is frequently conducted as a "first step" in the therapeutic process so that areas of concern or interest that may warrant further conversation can be identified early in the treatment process. Additionally, psychological testing can be helpful during later stages of treatment, particularly if new goals or strategies are needed.
Psychological testing can provide important information about an individual's:
- Personality structure
- Relationship styles
- Life themes
- Cognitive or belief frameworks (or schema)
- Treatment needs
- Response to treatment
Following the evaluation, you and your clinician will discuss the findings from your assessment and explore how some of the results can be incorporated into your therapeutic work together. Clients often find that participating in a brief evaluation process can deepen the therapeutic experience and accelerate the treatment process. Additionally, your therapist will also discuss whether additional testing may be helpful for you, such as
neuropsychological testing or
career assessment.
