Psychological Testing Services
Psychological testing is a broad term used to describe a battery of testing instruments designed to assess an individual?s cognitive, personality and emotional functioning. The typical psychological testing battery includes roughly 6-9 separate instruments that range from highly structured IQ tests to more projective personality measures. The goal of psychological testing is to provide an initial assessment of an individual?s overall level of functioning. At CPA, our psychological testing services integrate parts of the traditional psychological testing battery with other, more specific types of assessment, such as neuropsychological testing and/or educational testing.
Psychological testing is often implemented as a ?first step? in the assessment process and can highlight or elucidate additional areas of concern or interest that may warrant further investigation. Psychological testing can provide important information about an individual?s:
|
• |
Cognitive strengths & weaknesses |
|
• |
Personality structure |
|
• |
Diagnosis |
|
• |
Treatment needs |
An important component of the psychological testing battery is personality assessment. We use an array of personality assessment tools in conjunction with other cognitive, achievement and/or neuropsychological tests. They provide information about how a person?s personality structure is organized in terms of emotion, interpersonal and intrapersonal functioning, information processing skills and data about an individual?s coping resources, and situational and chronic stress.
Commonwealth Psychology Associates offers our psychological testing services to people living in and around the greater Boston and Newton areas, including the surrounding Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire communities.
