Sex Therapy

Sex Therapy is for individuals and couples who are seeking to actively address concerns related to sex and intimacy. Sexuality is an innate part of who we are as human beings and sex therapy can help to dispel myths and open lines of healthy communication between partners. It can help individuals explore and become more comfortable and confident with their sexuality.

Common reasons individuals and couples seek sex therapy include:

  • Desire discrepancies
  • Performance anxieties
  • A history of sexual trauma
  • Exploring sexual preferences or fetishes
  • Infidelity
  • Pornography addiction
  • Concerns related to aging or menopause
  • Post-partum concerns relating to sex
  • Physical concerns such as erectile dysfunction, painful intercourse, premature ejaculation, orgasmic dysfunction, a medical diagnosis or illness that may affect sexual function.

Treatment is tailored to each client and couple, but generally incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or behavioral work in talk therapy sessions. Homework is frequently assigned. It may be helpful to think of it like a personalized, interactive course for a couple to help overcome obstacles and challenges relating to sex and intimacy, so they may find greater satisfaction in their relationship.
