Dr. Calfa is a licensed psychologist offering counseling services, with a specialization in health psychology. Dr. Calfa helps clients understand how psychological factors significantly influence their health, including physical illnesses and stress, and aids them in coping with the impact of medical issues on their daily lives. She provides health interventions for individuals coping with acute and/or chronic medical conditions such as headaches, diabetes, gastrointestinal problems, chronic pain, cardiac issues, cystic fibrosis, scoliosis, and fibromyalgia.

In addition to her work in health psychology, Dr. Calfa also maintains a strong interest and training in treating clients who are experiencing anxiety, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, and situational or chronic stress. Additionally, Dr. Calfa works with individuals coping with relationship issues, adjustment to significant life changes or losses, and she provides parent training/consultation.

Dr. Calfa’s therapeutic style incorporates cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, and family systems approaches. She incorporates relaxation techniques, including biofeedback, in her work with clients to improve mood regulation and stress management. As a warm, compassionate therapist, Dr. Calfa creates a safe, neutral therapeutic space within the context of a collaborative relationship for each client.

Dr. Calfa received her doctoral degree in counseling psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and master’s degree in counseling from Arizona State University. She completed her psychology internship and post-doctoral fellowship training at Harvard Medical School/Boston Children’s Hospital, including clinical work with both youth and adults, and training in behavioral medicine, outpatient mental health, and psychological testing. Dr. Calfa provides psychotherapy and behavioral medicine services at our Financial District office.
