Shannon Stern is a licensed mental health counselor who provides individual therapy to adults and young adults. Shannon utilizes a strength-based approach in therapy and believes in finding what’s most effective for each individual to promote positive life changes. Shannon draws from her training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness to incorporate skills-based learning into sessions, while also providing an accepting and nonjudgmental space for processing and understanding emotional experiences. She uses authenticity, warmth, and humor in her practice to help alleviate symptoms and increase client well-being.
Shannon’s professional background includes extensive experience working with adolescents and adults struggling with eating disorders and co-occurring disorders at various levels of care. She has additionally worked intensively with families in residential and home-based settings, providing crisis management and Family-Based Therapy (FBT.) Shannon’s clinical interests include anxiety, depression, eating disorders, interpersonal relationship challenges, and stress management.
Shannon received her bachelor’s degree from University of Vermont and her Masters in Counseling Psychology at Boston College. She completed her clinical internship in Stonehill College’s Counseling Center, and most recently worked as Assistant Program Director at Walden Behavioral Care. She sees clients in our Financial District office.
